Nutrition Coaching

Your pet’s diet and activity level have a significant effect on their overall health and happiness throughout their lifetime. An unbalanced diet can result in poor growth, weight gain and a predisposition to disease. Since nutrition is a fundamental pillar to health overall, our hospital in Caledon Village offers pet nutrition coaching to help owners start their pets on the most suitable diet for their life stage and overall health needs. We want to educate and help you with whatever diet you maybe feeding to ensure that diet is delivering the most benefits it can. Our coaching service is designed to make specific recommendations such as calculating exactly how many calories your pet should be consuming in a day, cost per day feeding and nutrition plans designed for specific conditions such as weight loss, growth, kidney & joint disease, food intolerance and diabetes.

Why Weight Management Matters Pets, especially those that do not engage in frequent activity, can easily gain weight. Low-quality food, improper food measurement, table scraps, and high-carb treats can cause serious problems. Like people, overweight pets can develop diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, and respiratory issues. These conditions are costly to treat, and will make your pet miserable. Signs your pet is struggling with weight problems can include:

  • Shortness of breath
  • Getting tired very quickly
  • Sleeping more often
  • Having trouble walking
  • Not being able to feel their ribs
  • Their collar becoming too tight
  • Becoming thicker around the middle
