Pet Vaccinations Can Offer Life-long Disease Protection
Vaccines can play a significant role in your pet’s preventive and wellness care. At Caledon Mountain Veterinary Hospital in Caledon Village, we create individualized pet vaccination programs that address the unique health needs of each patient. Diseases and viruses can be a threat to your pet’s health just as they can be for us, which is why your veterinarian will want to discuss vaccinations as early in your pet’s development as possible. We’ll make sure your pet has everything they need to stay healthy and happy.
Vaccines We Offer for Cats and Dogs
Your pet may not need all of the vaccines we carry at our hospital in Caledon Village, and the ones they do require are given based on their lifestyle needs. The vaccines we can provide for canines and felines include:
(Feline viral rhinotracheitis-calicivirus-panleukopenia)
- Feline leukemia
- Rabies vaccine*
- Rabies vaccine*
*Rabies is required by law in Ontario, and for traveling outside of the country.
We administer pet vaccinations based on each pet’s risk of exposure to certain diseases. However, we do acknowledge that some pet owners have concerns about vaccinating, or their pets have allergic reactions to certain vaccines. As an alternative, we can perform vaccine titers to ensure that your pet is sufficiently immune to the diseases with which they may come into contact.
How Often Should My Pet Be Vaccinated?
To initiate immunity for your pet, the first booster should be given at 8 weeks of age, and repeated every 4 weeks in a series of 3 inoculations. Vaccines are then completed at years 1 and 2, and continued thereafter based on lifestyle, risk and environment. We recommend annual exams for adult pets, and bi-annual visits for senior pets.
